Theresa, Nurse
"I think of this as home now."
Theresa's original intention was to stay two years at Saudi Aramco – just long enough to pay off her mortgage – and then move on to somewhere else. That was five years ago.
"The longer I stay, the more I feel comfortable here," she explains. "I think of this as home now. When I go back to South Africa on vacation, I miss it."
What is it that's kept her here all this time? Partly, it's the satisfaction she gets from her work. Before joining Aramco, Theresa spent five years working for the NHS, first in Poole and then in Birmingham. "I was expecting everything to be very different when I came here, but actually it wasn't much of a shock at all. The facilities are excellent, and I feel able to offer a very high standard of care."
But it's not just life at work that Theresa enjoys. It's life on camp too. "The good thing about Aramco is that there are lots of facilities for us. We have the gym. We have the cinema. We can go around the golf course. People get involved in sports. And there are lots of different groups that you can join. The groups go on trips at the weekends. They go camping and so on. It's nice. You can be yourself here. You can do what you."
